The Russians… amirite!?! I have said this before and I’ll say it again: they are an amazing breed of crazy — resourceful to the terrifying utmost yet unhinged in the way of “zero fucks given”. And now here is freeskier Ivan Malakhov setting the world record for the highest helicopter jump. How did he do this? He jumped in the crater of Kamchatka’s active Mutnovsky volcano.
According to RT: “Once the countdown was over, Malakhov, with an extra camera strapped to his helmet, stepped to the edge and leapt 12.6 meters (four stories) into the unexplored mass of white, scantly marked with sharp rocks sticking out of the snow. It was a pretty steep incline and treacherous terrain that had to be wrestled with, before Malakhov finally emerged like a hero, skis off, to the cheers and congratulations of his teammates.”
Is the video ultimately what we were expecting? Not really — but 40 feet from a helicopter (the height of the jump) is impressive whether it is into an “active volcano” or onto a simple slope.
