The Inertia

Shark attacks are a surefire way to spread some breaking news. Whether you’re online, digging through Facebook, on this very site, or at home watching the news, when word of a shark attack enters your ears, chances are good that you’ll stop what you’re doing. Sometimes that latest sighting, attack or beach closure lands a little close to home (literally) and we’re all undoubtedly a little spooked by it. And the hysteria that follows on your news feed is only going to make that vibe a little worse most of the time.

That’s why the good people at SharkBytes have created the world’s first mobile app, designed specifically to let users know about any and all shark related incidents nearby. While the frenzied attacks get all the attention, SharkBytes is the only collection of all recorded incidents. It will even send notifications to your phone anytime a new incident occurs, keeping users  informed saving you from having to hear the 3rd, 4th, and 5th person versions of the latest sighting.

The SharkBytes mobile app will include info on types of sharks found nearby, behavior that can attract them, and beach history. There is also a Save Sharks section of the app dedicated to shark conservation, linking users to information about the depopulation of certain species, with SharkBytes donating a portion of their proceeds to conservation and research of the ocean’s apex predators.
