Occy began his professional career on the World Tour at the very young age of 17. So when it comes to competitive surfing (and all things surf, for that matter), he’s been there, done that, and bought the T-shirt, so to speak. 17 years old is young, but kids these days are getting a much earlier jump on their careers by competing in every event they possibly can. And what better way to jump start your career than getting a good result at a competition hosted by the 1999 World Champion, Mark Occhilupo? “The level just keeps getting higher and higher,” said Occy. “It’s insane.” We agree, Occy. We agree. The future talent looks so bright that it’s blinding. It’s hard to imagine what kinds of amazing things these kids will be doing in just a few years. Here’s a wrap of this year’s competition.
