The Inertia

It was less than 2 months ago when CJ Hobgood announced 2015 would be his final run on the World Tour. Now that his farewell tour is officially underway, he’s about to be enshrined in the 2015 class of the Surfers’ Hall of Fame. Surfers’ Hall of Fame founder Aaron Pai had the following statement on the former world champ’s induction, set to take place in Huntington Beach on July 31st:

“CJ Hobgood has been on the World Tour for nearly two decades and has brought endless amounts of pure stoked to the fans and to the surfing world. He’s an amazing surfer and amazing waterman along with being a great ambassador for our sport of surfing. Honored and delighted to Induct CJ Hobgood into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame!”

Hobgood’s competitive career started in 1989 and by the time he was 20 years old a full decade later he’d been named the ASP’s Rookie of the Year. 2 years later he won the 2001 ASP World Championship Tour Title after its 5 event season. Since that 1999 rookie year Hobgood has won four World Tour events, including twice in 2004. One of those wins came from the WSL’s next stop on the 2015 itinerary, Teahupoo.
