You may have heard that an hour after Mick Fanning’s J-Bay shark tussle, living legend Derek Hynd paddled out into the empty lineup. This is that session. Hynd, of course, is riding an 11’6 finless board, while Emi Erickson is on an early ’70s Bob Cooper single fin. The smaller day is the Monday after the final, and there’s a bit of Kelly Slater thrown in for good measure.
As always, Hynd makes finless look like the most fun one could possibly have on a surfboard–but then again, he’s Derek Hynd, and it ain’t as easy as he makes it look.
