Far From You is a short film showing a different side of surfing. I wanted to highlight that worldwide shared feeling that I call “surf melancholy.” It’s a feeling that hits those surfers, like Tao (the surfer in this film) and I, who live far from the ocean. In our everyday life, salt on the skin is missing, waves are constantly calling, and we are trapped in a concrete jungle without that magic feeling of floating on water. We try to ignore it because we have stuff to do (which is probably the reason why we are not surfing somewhere), but the only thing that matters in that moment is to find that feeling again. For us, surfing is a cure, and it is all we want to do.
Tao is lucky enough to live close to one of the best standing wave in the world…but it’s just is not the same.
