Earlier this year, the surfing community was rocked when a fool with a gun callously took the life of 24-year-old Ricardo Dos Santos during an altercation while he was outside his home in Southern Brazil. The regrettable incident left many heartbroken while others expressed a deep anger. Still, nearly eight months after his death, Ricardo’s presence is felt around the world, and particularly in Tahiti where he rightfully earned his position as one of the best surfers to surf Teahupo’o. During this year’s Billabong Pro Tahiti, members from the top 34 paddle out to celebrate the life of Ricardo dos Santos for his warm, loving personality and his insane skill at one of the most challenging waves on the planet. Rest in peace, Ricardo. You are sorely missed.
