Traveling far and wide in search of perfect waves is like the surfing version of a badge of honor. But then again, when your home spot is pumping, there’s nothing better. Knowing where to sit, what tide will ensure perfection and owning the spot as your own is a special thing. Matt McCabe knows the feeling.
A new series called “My Backyard” features McCabe at home in Ventura scoring the area’s pumping beachbreaks. Basked in black and white, blaring punk rock and bikini babes on the beach – the clip feels like a nostalgic ode to the VHS glory days of surf cinema. McCabe undoubtedly got the idea for a home-based web series from his fellow Ventura County local Nick Rozsa. And to be honest, these guys shouldn’t feel guilty about staying around home if they’re scoring waves like this.
