Apparently, hoverboards at airports are a nonstarter. Just ask Wiz Khalifa.
We’ve covered the hoverboard beat pretty closely. I mean, it’s kind of a childhood dream. Between Tony Hawk, mystical Lexus hoverboard edits and beyond, Marty McFly’s days have become our days. We’re thankful for that. (Although we have yet to test these babies out ourselves.)
Which is why when we heard that rapper Wiz Khalifa (whom you may know from “We Dem Boyz”) was restrained by police officers at LAX yesterday for allegedly riding a hoverboard, we needed to know more.
Apparently, there is no record of an arrest at the moment, although LAX customs officials clearly held him down on the ground and instructed him not to resist after he allegedly refused to get off of his hoverboard.
Khalifa took to social media right before he was detained with some choice words and a raw video of his detention.

The rapper continued with the following tweet:
“What’s even funnier than [the cops] not bein able to do shit is they’ll be riding them soon as well. Maybe ones I design. I stand for our generation and our generation is gonna be riding hover boards so if you don’t like it eat a dick!”
While Khalifa’s behavior before the tape rolled is entirely unclear, “Hoverboardgate” most likely could have been resolved without a violent airport security tape flooding Wiz Khalifa’s 20.9M Twitter followers. Beyond that headscratcher, further questions needed answering.
Is this the first-ever hoverboard-related incident involving law enforcers? (Yes?)
What would Marty McFly do?
Will our generation really be riding hoverboards?
Where can we get a Wiz Khalifa-designed hoverboard?
Officers: Really?
Would you get off your hoverboard? For anyone? See video below.
