Lowers is to SoCal surfers as Mecca is to Muslims. And Nate Yeomans, as a San Clemente local, is one of many patron saints of the premiere south county spot. He’s got the place dialed from hucking huge airs to dousing unsuspecting surfers with man-sized buckets of spray. Yeomans showcases his local knowledge and some his ability to take down bombs on the North Shore in his just released full section from Hoven’s latest film, Mecca II.
The entire Mecca II film, available on iTunes, also features a revival of the surf film skit, à la Loose Change or Taj’s Fair Bits. In the clip, you get a taste of Yeomans on-the-land antics including an awkward interaction with some Big Gulp-sipping loiterers. Then there’s the haunting, Mad Max-inspired gasmask character. Not sure how this creepy dude standing on the side of the road with a sign blasted with Yeomans’ name relates to anything, but hey, you gotta give ‘em an A for effort.
