Andrew Mooney, voted best free surfer in the world in 2008, is no stranger to big waves. He’s one of the fortunate fellows that is able to see a swell and jump on a plane in a moment’s notice. But when the predicted swell of the century came with little warning, he realized he would have go into battle with his normal, day-to-day shortboards, as his big-wave boards wouldn’t be ready in time. Despite being undergunned during a swell that is said to hit over 70 percent of the world’s oceans, we think Andrew fared pretty damn well, to say the least. This is a classic example of David vs. Goliath.
