Growing up near the heart of Germany, it took Jannik a while to discover surfing. Once he had done so he made sure to keep it a regular part of his life. In between surf trips and working as a surf instructor in the south-west of France, Jannik finished a degree in Sports Science/Outdoor Education at GSU. To keep things interesting he linked various research assignments to surfing and became a bit of a surf science nerd. The results of his bachelor’s thesis, research on surfer’s wave-anticipation skills got published in a European science Journal (Psychology, Sports and Exercise), thanks to his mentor Dr. Philip Furley (GSU), a fellow surfer. In late 2017, after finishing his M.Sc. in Sports Tourism, Jannik took up a position as performance surfing coordinator at the German Surf Federation managing the national surf team Germany.
