Mary Flemming is 24-years-old and has an extreme passion for the ocean. She grew up in the mountains of Colorado snowboarding and skateboarding, but at the age of 16 moved to Santa Barbara to live by the ocean for the summer, and was forever hooked. She now dedicates herself to a life of surfing and ocean conservation. She graduated from Western State Colorado University with a BA in Business Administration and minors in both Environmental Studies, emphasis on ocean stewardship, and Spanish. Since college, her love of surfing and environmental education has led her to live all over the California coast, Costa Rica, South Africa and Hawaii. In 2013 she took a three month volunteer trip to South Africa as the first international volunteer for the Surfer Kids Non-profit, a surfing outreach program for youth in the small village of Friemershiem. Currently she lives on the Big Island of Hawaii where she organizes ocean studies camps and beach cleans ups with youth. At the moment she is working on developing an educational pilot project hoping to shine light on the healing that surfing and the ocean provide.
