Richard lived in five countries (UK, South Africa, USA, Australia and currently The Netherlands) before turning 30. Studied International Hospitality Management and traveled the world as an excuse for getting the right experience. After getting tired of being yelled at by cheap hotel guests, he decided to make a move to the banking industry. While getting to know the financial do’s and don'ts of running a business, he continued enjoying his real passion; kitesurfing and traveling. While combining these two excessively he encountered the same problem over and over again; expensive airline surfing fees, carrying your own gear and not enough surf rental locations. That’s why he started Shurfing (sharing surfing) together with his American buddy Rob Silva. It’s not all good news in Richard’s life. His biggest struggle is not being able to grow a real beard. Getting pointed at on the streets while carrying pieces of egg in his beard will always be utopia for him.
