When ZoSea quietly took control of the Association of Surfing Professionals, big things were in the air. They promised changes, and changes we got. Their most recent surfing acquisition is the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Although Vans will still be the presenting sponsor, the production and running of the events will now be the responsibility of the ASP. Including Haleiwa, Sunset and Pipeline events, the Triple Crown is one of the most coveted award in surfing. Up until now, however, it wasn’t controlled by the ASP. While details are still murky around what this will mean –if anything other than the ASP’s continued advancement towards complete ownership of professional contest surfing – rumor has it that there will be a new trials event for the Pipe Masters. Here’s how it’ll work, if rumors prove to be true: competitors will be seeded into the Pipe Masters from the Volcom Pipe Pro event. With thirty-two surfers and an increased purse, it would take place on the first day of the Pipe Masters and seed the top two into it.
