Dane Reynolds doesn't need trophies.

UPDATE: Dane Reynolds just returned our request for comment with the following note via email: “there is no lawsuit with quik, total creation from someone somewhere…”

Dane Reynolds left Quiksilver in November of 2015, but the loose ends of their relationship are still being sorted out according to a report that the surfer has filed a claim for $3.59 million. The story, first reported by Law360 and Reuters, outlines the suit between Quik and Reynolds, while the surfwear company is also in the midst of contesting claims for unpaid separation payments with several former employees to the tune of $7.3 million.

As for Dane Reynolds’ claim, Quiksilver presented their case to a Delaware bankruptcy judge on April 26th, saying they had closed exit negotiations with Wasserman Media in October on behalf of Reynolds. Shortly after, a lawyer at Jeff Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP filed claims on behalf of Dane and nine other athletes. Essentially, Quiksilver is contesting that the court expunge Reynolds’ nearly $3.6 million claim because it was made after their original termination agreement.

“Dane Reynolds and Quiksilver entered into a mutually agreed-upon termination agreement several months ago as reflected in the procedural motion filed by Quiksilver,” says Scott Lindley, a senior vice president at Wasserman Media. Law360 says Quiksilver has yet to contest the other claims made against them, but are stating they had “substantial back and forth” with Lindley until Reynolds signed the deal in early November.

Part of that deal was for Quiksilver to remove certain promotional material from the internet that featured Reynolds, “and tweaked the standard non-disparagement clause to one mutually barring intentional slander, according to the company’s filing,” the Law360 report says. Whether or not this is where Quiksilver violated the agreement hasn’t been made clear, but it’s a point of speculation as pointed out in Law360’s report.

At time of press, request for comment by Reynolds had not been returned.
