GoPro edits are pretty cool. The action part of them, that is. Everybody knows a surf session is 99% not surfing, the other half is grumbling and chasing after waves, and then finally the last half is actually riding said waves.
And if you’re rolling 1080HD on the entire thing that adds up to a lot of boring footage. That makes sitting down to edit it all into your masterpiece montage of barrels a daunting task to tackle.“The biggest pain-point with video is finding what’s relevant and editing it,” says David Lokshin, Co-Founder of Trace Video. “Everyone who buys a GoPro wants that particular look, but most GoPros sit on the shelf since editing is so hard.” So David and Anatole Lokshin developed an application that cuts out that hogwash out. By separating the action from the mundane moments all we’re left with is dragging raw files into a folder on your computer. Color corrections, stabilization, and overlay statistics are editing feats some reserve for a high-priced union editor at a TV network. But apparently the Lokshins wanted to make something that would compile it all and make GoPro footage easier to share through social media.
To top it all off the app was actually designed in a way that makes it a useful tool. A GPS feature allows measuring of calories burned, wave count, length of rides, degrees of turns and even distance paddled when you’re out surfing. For skiers it highlights everything from distance to slope time, to time spent on the chairlift or time resting on the mountain.
