The Inertia

I just stumbled across this video from Google that conceptualizes one of their newest developments: Project Glass. Project Glass can best be understood as an “augmented reality headset” that makes Demolition Man technology look like it came from the Stone Age. Google describes it as “technology that frees you to explore and share your world while keeping you in the moment.” Not the most helpful description we’ve ever read. Depending on your vantage, this cyborg proposition is utterly terrifying or exceptionally practical.

The prospect of beaming Google Ads into your iris is undeniably crazy, and who knows how much these will cost? They’re literally an inch away from being brain implants. On the other hand, For those of us whose smartphones tell us what to do all day, the most remarkable change is that now the smartphone is actually part of you, which means it’s a little bit harder to lose. Imagine documenting a session with these beasts.

No matter what you think, it’s a pretty mind-blowing technology to unleash on the world. Human beings create amazing things. They always do. And chances are, since Sergey Brin already sports these on a regular basis, this technology is coming to the masses sooner than we think. Be prepared.
