The Inertia

Winter is quickly approaching. And while the rest of the world is mentally preparing itself for some of the worst parts of resort skiing – lift lines, lift ticket prices, and the like – for a paltry $2,495,000, you could easily own a resort all your own and ride solo all year.

News broke that Marshall Mountain, located east of Missoula, was up for sale back in July for just shy of $3 million. But as of September, the price for Marshall Mountain has dropped by $500,000 and is still on the market. Play your cards right, and it may drop again.

The 156-acre property closed to skiing and snowboarding in 2003. Still, based on the photos posted by Century 21 Big Sky real estate, it would appear the place still has at least one lift (no indication, though, if it’s in working order) and a newly renovated lodge.

Marshall Mountain isn’t the first resort to go up for sale this year. Others, like Mt. Rose in Tahoe and Red Mountain have turned to crowdfunding in an effort to stay independent, which raises a good point. If the sticker shock of $2.5 million is too much, an alternate option might be to crowdfund a purchase.
