It wasn’t too long ago GoPro had us all drooling over the Hero4 Session, wondering how something so small could still create video that looks so cool. Well in a few months’ time that tiny little device will be old news, thrown aside like Woody when Buzz Lightyear showed up on the scene. That’s all because the GoPro Hero5 is set for a release that’s expected in early 2016 and yet again we’ll be saying “it’s their best camera yet.”
Word has it the Hero5 will also be half the size of the Hero4 but not much else is known about the design yet. Also similar to the Hero4 Session, this camera will be waterproof. This time up to a depth of 60 meters according to the Master Herald. So now you can suffer a really insane two wave hold down and have the footage to prove it. Or you know, just take it a little deeper on free dives.
Now let’s get to the stuff you want to know. The technical goodies. The GoPro Hero5 will record 8k in Full Ultra HD, doubling the video resolution of its predecessor. It’s powerful enough to shoot 4k and 1080p at 60 frames per second, but that’s not nearly the juiciest technical attribute of the new camera. Nope, the dual lens will make it the first action cam to record 3D footage. Did the GoPro barrel shots just get infinitely cooler or is it just us?
So yes, this really is GoPro’s best camera yet if everything we’re hearing so far comes to fruition. And the price tag? That’s expected to be in the $500 range.
