The Shurfing Team: Rob and Richard.
It all started a few years ago when I was living in Australia. My girlfriend and I had a camping trip planned to New Zealand. Obviously, I wanted to bring my surf gear but after checking the airline fees, I was thinking twice.
After arriving in Christchurch, we had a great trip ahead to Auckland. But I wanted to go kiting, and I checked every village and every city we passed for rental equipment. Only twice in two weeks I managed to rent kite gear from surf shops; once from the shop and once from the staff working there. However, while traveling along, I saw many many surfers going crazy on the water but no place to rent. Wouldn’t it be perfect if I could rent from the locals?
When I returned home to the Netherlands, I contacted my buddy from Boston, Rob Silva. We both had the same problem: finding gear abroad. We decided last July not to waste anymore time and start Shurfing – Sharing Surfing. Rob is currently building an online platform where anyone who wants can post their surfing gear and their chosen rental cost. I am trying to get the word out as much as possible. In the Netherlands, we are already getting great response. We became one of the finalists of The Next Entrepreneur 2013, among other things. On January 1st, we are launching the first worldwide sharing surfing platform. Everyone can post kite/wind/wave/SUP gear, name their price and start sharing.
