It’s pretty hard to unplug these days. That’s a dumb reality, but it’s the truth. Go somewhere, anywhere in the world, and you’re likely still going to be attached to your smartphone on airplane mode at the very least. If you’re a salty, bitter, stubborn carp who is really eager to gripe about how it just means millennials are idiots lacking the brain capacity to put away their phones, you should probably just not read about this concept. Because you won’t like it.

There, I saved you a few minutes of your day.

For anybody else who can see themselves traveling far and wide but still having a need for a laptop, a smartphone, a tablet or even just a GoPro, you’ll appreciate this creation on some level. Not that I’d personally endorse flying halfway across the world to sleep in a tent in search of waves and still insist on checking your damn email, but hey, at least you have the option. Portable solar panels aren’t a brand new invention but this is a unique one for action sports athletes specifically, as it’s fully waterproof and designed for the kind of durability you’d need on a remote surf trip or some backcountry skiing. It’s called the Savior, which is a pretty fitting name considering it’s basically designed to keep your technological dependencies on life support. The technical specs are as follows: dual USB ports for either iPhone or Android diehards, a headphone jack, IP68-rated detachable waterproof pocket and a touchscreen, and a bunch of other specs I may or may not understand. That’s honestly not bad for the $99 The Arc Effect has them for on their Kickstarter. In fact, apparently enough people like the idea so much that The Arc Effect’s Savior blasted through their Kickstarter goal of $20K a month ahead of their crowdfunding deadline. I guess they’re onto something.
