The Inertia

Would you pay $3,000 to fly under water? If your answer is an emphatic “hell yes” then good for you. But no level of excitement will change the fact that you’re still going to have to wait until late next year for the privilege of purchasing said superpowers.

The x2 is the world’s first underwater jet pack and wearing one grants its user the chance to immediately look like a G.I. Joe action figure. Thrusters attached to the forearm allow you to control where you travel underwater and even how fast, apparently to the tune of more than 6 mph. To put that in perspective, two Dutch researchers found that the maximum swimming speed for humans is in the ballpark of 4.5 mph. So the x2 literally gives you the ability to swim faster than an olympian, and that’s probably a cool enough thought to get a few buyers. So let’s all get ready for scuba divers zipping around, and for spear fishing to get even gnarlier than ever before. And if it doesn’t catch on in the scuba diving/spear fishing communities we can bet there are a few evil scientists with a henchman or two to suit up.
