The Inertia

Surfers know one thing better than most: the ocean is to be feared, loved, respected, and cherished all at the same time. It’s simultaneously a playground that could quite literally kill you. It’s also a life source–home to millions of different species of organism. The ocean influences weather patterns that deliver rain, filling rivers, lakes, and streams with the fresh water that sustains us and other living things.

The ocean brings us not just waves for a brief fleeting thrill. But it breathes life into even the most landlocked regions of the world. In spite of its centrality to life, the ocean does not speak for itself. Until now.

In this beautiful display of imagery evoking the vastness of our oceans, Harrison Ford gives the ocean a voice. The result is a swift kick in the pants for humans: “They take, but I can always take back.” It’s a breathtaking short video both as a spectacle, and for its truth.

A perfect reminder on this World Oceans Day to do our part to preserve it.
