Oceanfront property is a pretty big deal. In fact, it’s hard to imagine any other form of land being more valuable on the real estate market than the kind that puts you within view of a giant body of water. But in the case of these California homeowners the view definitely just got too close for comfort.
With El Niño bringing storms to the West Coast this entire month some homes in the town of Pacifica are now in danger of falling into the ocean. Eroding cliffs have put the town in a state of emergency with the residents of these particular homes evacuated since Monday now. You can see entire backyards that have apparently fallen down the cliffside already and in some cases you can see decks and patios that are leaning over the eroding cliffs. In another video that’s made national headlines you can see an entire apartment complex on the bring of falling off the cliff, which has been evacuated and obviously deemed unsafe for residents to stay in.
In 1998 El Niño had the same effect on the Northern California city, eroding cliffs and causing one home to fall into the ocean. Just five years ago two other homes were evacuated and condemned.
