A local fisherman unsuspectingly hooked a 7-foot great white shark off the Huntington Beach Pier Tuesday morning, according to reports, prompting officials to issue a temporary shark advisory.
The man was fishing around 11 a.m. when he hooked the shark and attempted to reel it in until the line snapped.
Passersby claim the fisherman struggled for nearly 30 minutes to an hour to bring the juvenile white shark to the surface until the it managed to break the line.
Huntington Beach Lifeguards issued a shark advisory for a large stretch of beach, but the area remains open to the public.
Because the shark was only 7-feet long, short of the 8-foot threshold, only an advisory was issued as opposed to a complete closure, Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis told the OC Register.
Huntington Beach Lifeguards posted about the advisory on social media along with the photo above.
