Ah, the circle of life. Food chains, predators, prey, and all that. Of course it’s completely natural for predators to feed on prey. But there’s something sort of fulfilling seeing prey continue living for another day after a dramatic chase. Maybe it’s that romantic come from behind victory or something.
In one such circle of life predatory chase, a great white shark locked in on an unlucky seal on the north side of Nauset Inlet, off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Spotter pilot Wayne Davis of Atlantic White Shark Conservancy captured the pursuit from above, and the images are incredible.
In a turn of events, maybe it was this seal’s lucky day after all. According to Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Facebook post, the seal narrowly escaped the jaws of death to live another day. From the look of the photos, the seal had a pretty slim margin for error. But he came out on top this time. Score: Seal 1, shark 0.
