The Inertia

You’ve heard the old aphorism: the best ideas are often the most simple ones. It’s painfully unhelpful, but it’s true. And this reusable straw is proof.

The product is called Final Straw, which is both a truism in the sense that it’s the last straw you’ll ever need and a nod to the fact that single-use straws are horrible for the environment.

In the five short days their campaign has been live on Kickstarter, the folks behind the Final Straw have raised a cool $470,000. Their goal, we should add, was just $12,500.

What makes the Final Straw such an ingenious idea is its portability. Ever since environmentalists have become aware of the scourge of single-use plastic straws, more sustainable options have been available. Often, they’re made of metal or bamboo. The only problem is where do you carry your reusable straw – particularly if you don’t walk around with a backpack or purse everywhere? Your pocket?

The Final Straw collapses into a case that goes on your key ring, ensuring you’re never without it. Or, at least, you’re never without it whenever you remember your keys.

We haven’t gotten a chance to use one yet, but from the video it looks simple enough. The straw unfolds itself out of the box, and looks easy to fold for storage. Bottom line: we’d love to get our mitts on one!
