The Inertia

“Awesome” had a good run. It was the pinnacle of cool for decades, only lessened by a dictionary of hyperbolic adjectives and wordings that, quite frankly, lost effect after us SEO junkies started stapling them to every single headline we wrote with hopes of Upworthy-type virality. But awesome ran in the shadows. There was “Epic..” and “X Will Make You Cry” or “This Is The Best Thing You’ll See Today” and whatever now-cliched catch phrases ran the gauntlet as editorial start-ups vowed to take over the world. Yet the time has come to sing: awesome is dead, long live awesome.

Yep, we just wrote an obit for the word “awesome” because this video has us so disoriented and thereby speechless that an obit for the word “awesome” not only seemed like a good idea, but a great one.

Quick facts about this amazing, er, THING we’re acting as witness to, quoted from the YouTube description: “Calbuco volcano has 2003 meters height (6572ft). The impressive ashes column you see in the video had a calculated height of 15km (9.3mil), from which you clearly see about 10km (6.2mil) before to get lost inside the atmosphere static zone where the ashes created a huge and dense cloud that now is traveling around the world.”

Mother Nature is pretty and all, but she throws a mean hook.
