This has been one of the coldest weather stints Ive ever seen here in the Northeast. Downright rare and frigid temps through the holidays led us straight into a record breaking snow event, Grayson. And that’s how we kicked off the New Year.
After the system blew up and out to sea, we were left with sub-zero temperatures on Grayson’s heels. Pretty much anything will freeze at that point, and apparently that includes even the turbid salty shores of New Jersey. Thank God for woodstove fires — I’m just not quite sure how anyone would stay properly warm without them.
I had seen pictures of slurpee waves before but never thought I would see the day here in New Jersey. Sure enough, there they were right before my eyes. As the air temps began to thaw, the sea turned into a half frozen playground. With quality wetsuit gear of course, I played in slurpee waves for two days straight, capturing wave art and GoPro footage of the incredible beauty.
