Lofoten, Norway easily one of the most beautiful places in the world. But it’s no stretch to think the first thing that comes to mind when people are passing time here isn’t to go out and surf. Archeologists have found evidence of civilization here at least 11,000 years ago, and for at least the past thousand years the islands here have been the center of great cod fisheries. So man’s relationship with the ocean in this little pocket of the Arctic Circle runs very, very deep.
And again, it’s hard to think the vikings navigated through here, seeing the untouched beaches, the mountains, and some of the most amazing scenery in the world with 40 degree water and imagined someday people would come here to play. But it is a very safe bet even a thousand years ago in the coldest and harshest conditions he still took a moment every now and then to acknowledge this is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
