Poke. Shave ice. Shrimp truck. Spam roll. Plate lunch. All sorts of foods come to mind when considering meals on the North Shore of Oahu. But where are the locals dining? Rocky Point resident Mikala Jones filled us in on his favorite haunts.
1. Haleiwa Joes: “I get the crab rolls and sashimi. You can’t beat them”
2. Lei Leis: “You have to try the coconut shrimp there.”
3. Cafe Haleiwa. “I go there for breakfast. Breakfast in the Barrel is my go-to. It’s bacon and sour cream. I’d recommend that.”
4. Home: “We eat at home a lot. We’re always cooking and BBQing here. Eating at home is the first choice. Always.”
“Those are the only four places I really eat. Seriously.”

We’ve done our fair share of sampling in the past two weeks, so we humbly submit that Ted’s Bakery has enabled us to survive each day. And Luisbuenos, Pupukea Grill, Kahuku Superette, Giovannis Shrimp truck all deserve mention. Feel free to throw in your two cents as well.
