“So, I became a health freak pretty much when I was 20. And it only made sense for me to leave Rockstar and join Villager,” says Alana Blanchard. Since its inception, coconut water company Villager Goods has gotten a bunch of athletes in surf, skate, and snow to jump ship from energy drink sponsors. Our own Matthew Vanatta thinks that’s a good thing. Why? Well, because energy drinks are unhealthy, and with Alana, for example, if she’s a health freak like she says, why endorse a brand and a product you don’t actually consume?
Villager is changing that model. And while the video above is a shameless ad, it’s also a more general call to arms about health, and not selling out (not completely, at least). The big business of energy drinks still looms large, but small brands offering healthier alternatives, are slowly gaining steam.
