The Inertia

It’s true, weeping minions. A Japanese study of 12 people found that alcohol consumption increases the attractivity of your skin to mosquitos. When you sweat out the beer, you become more yummy to those pesky bugs of summer. It’s a sad reality for those of us who imbibe for pleasure, and necessity.

“Our study demonstrated that percent mosquito landing on volunteers significantly increased after beer ingestion compared with before ingestion, showing clearly that drinking alcohol stimulates mosquito attraction,” read the studies’ synopsis. The findings aren’t conclusive, the researchers reminded those still holding out a glimmer of hope.

The study also warned against the wrath of mosquito bites in general and the diseases the insects carry including Malaria, West Nile Virus and Dengue Fever. And where did we come upon this sad piece of advice? In this random write-up answering the question: “5 Reasons a Mosquito Bites You and Not Others,” a fascinating read for those so inclined. Our pointless research will never end for you. But back to the alcohol and mosquitos bit: who’s gonna invent the first full-mosquito net body suit designed specifically for drinking beer outdoors near watery, swampy locales?

Freakin’ mosquitos.
