To all the dads out there that taught us how to pizza and french fry, falling leaf, and s-turn, thanks. Thanks for buckling and tying our boots. For patiently eschewing fresh pow for the bunny hill to watch us fall, listen to us us cry, dust us off and keep us going. Most importantly, thanks for instilling in us a love for the mountains and the outdoors that we’ll never lose.
This Father’s Day, the folks behind Ikon Pass launched this beautiful little tribute (above) that goes out to dads everywhere. It’s the story of Mica, 6, whose father Pete drives her and her brother Kai, 8, to Mammoth often. On the hill, Mica matches pink pants with her pink jacket, and her dad pulls her through the flats when she can’t keep the momentum going. But, “the drive home is the most relaxing part,” she says. Because when you’re young, it’s about the simple things.
As we edge toward Father’s Day (it’s this Sunday if you’ve put off getting a card), here’s to all the dads that continue to pass down a love for surf and the outdoors to their kids. Oh, and if you’re looking to get a late season shred on the hill with your pops to celebrate, Sunday is Mammoth’s closing day!
