Danny Kass definitely came along at the right time for snowboarding. The East Coast-bred Kass had an unbelievably smooth style and a legendary wild streak that people loved, most of the time. Despite his antics, the dude went on an historic contest bender in the early 2000s, winning an X Games Gold, four US Open titles, and two Olympic silver medals, one in Salt Lake and another in Torino. To say he’s influenced the game is an understatement. While Shaun White brought it to the mainstream, as Todd Richards says in the film, Danny brought the “Dirty Jersey.”
This series of mini biographies, aptly called Microdose, is a new step for Absinthe Films, a revered maker of shred flicks.”Telling more stories is huge for us,” Shane Charlebois told The Inertia last month, admitting that snowboarding hasn’t always done the best job archiving its past. “We want to show who these snowboarders are as people.” Absinthe has a series set of Microdose releases coming up that includes Kimmy Fasani, Jamie Lynn, Torsten Horgmo and others. You can watch Part II of Danny Kass, below.
