Our favorite sombrero-wearing Joker — actor Jared Leto — is back with the second installment in his video series about the National Parks. The new chapter focuses on climber, artist and photographer Renan Ozturk. The piece, titled “The Dirtbag,” touches on Ozturk’s majestic drawings and paintings, his groundbreaking first ascent of Meru, and his near-death skiing accident in Wyoming. But most of the video’s 11-minutes are devoted to footage of Ozturk leading Leto as they simul-climb the 16-pitch Royal Arches route in Yosemite.
The five part series, directed by Leto, kicked off earlier this week with “The Conquistador,” an examination of Tommy Caldwell’s life and climbing career.
Leto’s style lends to a more personal, casual feel than you’d expect of documentaries about the National Parks. You just have to deal with watching Leto have a newbie freak-out about climbing an exposed slab and getting his hands scuffed up from jamming.
