The Inertia

Alex Honnold has devoted his life to doing something very dangerous. Watching him, though, one gets the feeling that Honnold couldn’t live his life any other way. And while a life lived on the edge almost certainly weighs heavy on him, it’s also a heavy thing to bear for his friends and family.

The video above shows how they deal with the very real possibility that Honnold could die. “There’s that weird thought of ‘don’t fricken let that be our last hug,'” says Honnold’s girlfriend just prior to his record-breaking free solo of Yosemite’s El Capitan. “I shouldn’t be having that thought of ‘what if something happens? What if I don’t see him again? Why do you want to do this?’ It’s a totally crazy goal.”
