Austen Sweetin didn’t really have to go anywhere last month. He didn’t have to travel or lug his boards through airports. It was too good where he was: “Mt. Baker received 294 inches of snow in January and during that storm cycle we filmed GRAUPEL,” wrote Sweetin, one of our favorite riders of snow, on his Instagram page. Well, we fact checked Mr. Sweetin and you know what? He was right (see here).
Now as for the term “graupel,” the title of Austen’s new flick, that’s actually the German word for sleet but is often used to describe the snow that falls as little, tiny balls. It can actually be fun to ride. Now, we’re fairly sure that Austen rode more than just graupel snow for this piece – it looks as though he rode anything he could carve a board through. But it’s sure to get you fired up nonetheless with hopefully plenty of more snow to come (the season is still young). Alex Lopez, Robyn Van Gyn, and Timmy Taussig also make appearances.
