The Inertia

Despite the fact this video looks like it was filmed with a hammer, it shows that one thing is true: Australia has plenty of whitewater. And it produces plenty of cringe-worthy carnage. Those poor guides at the 1:30 mark might win the beater award. All in the name of taking punters down the river.

Australia has a rather dry reputation but the country actually produces plenty of whitewater talent. Cairns in North Queensland is one epicenter of river running and the book, Death of a River Guide, written by Australian Richard Flanagan set on Tasmania’s Franklin River, is an absolute must-read if you fancy yourself a lover of rapids and all they can teach us.
