It’s nice to know she’s human. Chloe Kim, who’d won eight straight events in women’s snowboarding finally tripped up and missed the top spot on the podium after falling on her first run. That’s when veteran Elena Hight pounced, capturing her first gold after 13 X Games appearances at age 27.
In dicey conditions, where men and women in both skiing and snowboarding had to navigate an icy pipe in bitterly-cold Aspen weather, Kim finished third behind Hight and China’s Xuetong Cai. “This is amazing,” Hight said. “I honestly wasn’t even thinking about results, I just wanted to land my run.”
As we wrote last week, this could be the deepest talent pool in U.S. women’s history.
