Swedish freeskier Sofia Wikström was laying it on the line during the final of the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships when the horrendous happened: she took an extremely dangerous fall, bouncing over a cliff band, barely missing the rocks with her head while carrying a ton of speed.
Here’s what she wrote, as translated from her Instagram page:
“Hard and difficult conditions on NM this year led to a rather big crash…Everything felt stable and good at first, but just before taking off, I ended up (off) balance and failed to steer the skis in the right direction. Anyway, I’m home again and (got) away with a broken wrist and a little scratch, how clumsy it sounds. Thank you for (the) incredible help and support all the way from the mountain to the hospital and home to Stockholm.”
