A Canadian backcountry skier is extremely lucky to be alive after a seperate group of backcountry travelers happened upon the man in the mountains north of Vancouver, British Columbia. A 67-year-old skier was riding with a friend when he was caught in a slide.
The group of skiers came upon the scene as the older gentlemen’s friend was trying to dig him out from under about six feet of snow. Once they got him to the surface, they went into action, creating insulation by laying the man on branches and surrounding him with warm coats and heated water bottles. The man suffered a broken leg and pelvis and had to be airlifted from the scene.
The skiers who rescued him were extremely well prepared. Which was another stroke of pure luck.
