The Inertia

The Spearhead Traverse is a well-known winter route among locals that features some fairly radical backcountry terrain between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains in British Columbia. Arc’teryx looks at the route and its history, taking a brief moment to address the impact of backcountry destinations like this as they become more popular.

The video drummed up a bit of controversy in the YouTube comments section. Since the early 1990s, Whistler has exploded as a ski and snowboard destination, leaving locals salty about exposing wild, untamed places like this. But it’s pretty tough to keep fantastic backcountry locales secret forever and British Columbia is loaded with classic, and not-so-classic backcountry routes. Should they all be kept a secret?
