The Inertia

Rachel Atherton is, undeniably, a badass. The English downhill racer and world champion proved it again a couple of weeks ago during a warmup ride for the Fort William Downhill World Cup event in Scotland. As she was practicing, she eats it, hard, and her shoulder pops out of joint, which she says has happened multiple times. With the help of a spectator–not much help, actually–she resets it and continues down the course.

“My shoulders are my weakest point after multiple dislocations over the last 15 years, and this sport is savage!” she wrote on her Instagram page. Damn straight.

She had to sit out the Fort William event, which ended her two-year world cup victory streak of 13.
