The Inertia

The backcountry, for those who find respite there, represents a lot of things. For some, it’s a quiet escape from the hustle-bustle of civilization. For others, the allure is in the beauty of towering peaks mixed with the promise of fresh powder tracks. It may be all of those things. Whatever the attraction, for backcountry enthusiasts it’s only natural to seek to document the places that inspire us to take home and maybe even to inspire others.

Enter Jessa Gilbert, a Canada-based visual artist and splitboard devotée. For Gilbert, growing up snowboarding competitively, her interests in art and snowboarding rarely intersected. That is until later in life she found splitboarding and began packing her art materials in her backpack, creating sketches of the wild places she discovered in her travels.

Gilbert’s art will undoubtedly floor you. Get acquainted with her process by clicking the play button above.
