The X Games League (XGL) announced the four general managers of its teams for the upcoming winter season. Highlighting that short list was a freeskiing legend, 1998 Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley, who will head the new XC Golden State.
The league announced the addition of XC Golden State to its winter teams roster earlier this month, choosing the San Francisco Bay Area as its home base. Moseley is an obvious choice as the face of that new franchise then, given his history there.
“Growing up in Northern California, I saw firsthand how the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe helped shape skiing and snowboarding,” said Moseley. “It’s where I learned to ski, where I competed, and where my passion for the sport began. To come back and lead XC Golden State is incredibly meaningful.”
Moseley’s a pioneer in the freeskiing world. He was the first athlete to medal at both the X Games and at the Olympics, which brought validity to the X Games. His Big Air silver medal at the 1999 Winter X came on the heels of winning gold in Nagano in 1998. His post-retirement broadcasting career cemented Moseley as one of the most recognizable faces in freeskiing, all while the sport has continued to grow in the decades since.
Joining Moseley as fellow GMs this winter are action sports executive Dave Sypniewski (XC New York), co-creator of The Uninvited, Sharalee “Haze” Hazen (XC Park City), and Canadian media veteran Ryan Stutt (XC Whistler). The first notable task ahead of each GM will be building their respective athlete rosters in September’s athlete draft. The inaugural XGL Winter Season will then kick off January 2027 in Aspen, Colorado.
