A Lake Tahoe, California backcountry skier was airlifted to a Reno, Nevada hospital Sunday after taking a giant fall that rescuers estimate was somewhere between 200 and 300 feet. The skier was riding in a remote area near Mount Tallac. The skier’s name was not released but it was reported that he suffered major injuries in the fall.
Mount Tallac is southwest of Lake Tahoe in the Desolation Wilderness and is just under 10,000 feet. “The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded towards the area and due to the remote location requested CHP Helicopter (H-20) to assist,” wrote CHP Valley Air Operations in a post. The nature of the skier’s injuries have not been released to the public.
