Mountain biking is so damn fun. But it can also be so damn painful, as Lance Armstrong recently pointed out in an Instagram post where he showed off his slightly-maimed mug after a crash. He was riding the Tom Blake Mountain Bike trail at Snowmass Village near Aspen, infamous for being classic, buttery-smooth single track which means good riders can carry a ton of speed on it. We didn’t say that’s what Armstrong was doing. But he did get intimate with the dirt there. And he is a good rider, of course. “Well, sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail,” he wrote. “The Tom Blake trail (one of my faves) came up and tried to KO my ass today. Took quite the blow to the noggin’.

Armstrong had to get checked out at the local medical unit, which he thanked for taking care of him. Of course the snide remarks followed in the comments section. But regardless of where you stand on Lance, he’s human, and his post is further proof.
