Swedish freeskier Jacob Wester likes to get away. And his new flick, Maydaze, about his journey to the Arctic Circle, is shot with pretty rad style even though it doesn’t always fit seamlessly together: there’s a middle segment that interrupts incredible arctic scenery with sharp, pointed imagery that probably displays Wester’s disenchantment with competitive skiing. And somebody surfs, which is most-likely Wester and his friends. But that chop in the editing somehow works really well to show the rigors of travel.
And while Maydaze certainly is “a journey without a plan, deep into the Arctic Circle.,” the cinematography is outrageous. The skiing is super tight and it’s fun as hell to watch.
